Qatar and France have announced plans to enhance their strategic partnership, focusing on defence, security, trade, energy, and investment. This development follows the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Doha on October 20–21, 2026, where he met with Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The leaders engaged in discussions that underscored their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and political coordination.

A significant outcome of the talks was the emphasis on expanding defence cooperation. Qatar and France have agreed to increase military collaboration, which includes joint training programs, enhancement of land-force capabilities, and air defence initiatives. A letter of intent was signed to select KNDS France and John Cockerill Defense for the modernization of Qatar’s land forces. Both nations also expressed interest in furthering cooperation involving Rafale fighter aircraft, radar systems, communications satellites, and military planning.

Beyond military matters, both countries pledged to bolster efforts in counterterrorism, cybersecurity, and combatting illicit financial flows. They also highlighted the need to ensure maritime navigation security and reduce regional tensions through diplomatic efforts.

On the economic front, Qatar and France agreed to explore various investment opportunities in sectors such as energy, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, cybersecurity, transport, infrastructure, healthcare, and tourism. The discussions emphasized the importance of energy security, technological innovation, and sustainable development.

The talks also covered regional conflicts, including situations in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Sudan, Libya, and Yemen. Both leaders reiterated their support for diplomatic resolutions, humanitarian aid, and regional stability, and they reaffirmed backing for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Additionally, Qatar and France committed to expanding cooperation in areas like education, research, culture, sports, and tourism, along with joint humanitarian and development initiatives. These agreements reflect the two countries’ shared intent to deepen their strategic relationship, focusing on defence, economic growth, and international security.
