Qatar is urging the international community to enhance cooperation to drive sustainable development and advance the United Nations 2030 Agenda. This call was articulated by Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, during a high-level meeting on the Global Development Initiative in New York.
Al Misnad outlined several pressing challenges that developing nations face, including financial constraints, debt pressures, food insecurity, climate change, energy shortages, and the digital divide. She emphasized the necessity for sustainable and inclusive development as essential for achieving long-term peace, stability, and prosperity. The minister called for increased international efforts to address the development financing gap and to boost resources particularly for the least developed countries.
Qatar highlighted the need for reinforced commitments to development finance, climate action, and reforms to the international financial system to better support developing nations in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals. Al Misnad pointed out the potential benefits of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in aiding sustainable development but also cautioned that unequal access to these technologies could exacerbate existing inequalities. She advocated for enhanced cooperation in technology transfer, scientific research, innovation, and the development of digital skills.
Reaffirming its dedication to sustainable development, Qatar referenced its National Vision 2030 and its various international partnerships. The country also showcased its initiatives aimed at supporting poverty reduction, education, food security, healthcare, and resilience in vulnerable countries.
