by admin477351

The Qatar Central Bank (QCB) has officially joined the AFAQ Payments System, marking the full participation of all six central banks from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in this regional payment network. This development signifies a major step forward in enhancing the financial and payment infrastructures across the Gulf, aiming to make cross-border money transfers quicker, more efficient, and secure.

Joining AFAQ alongside QCB are three Qatari banks: Doha Bank, Qatar International Islamic Bank, and Dukhan Bank. Their inclusion raises the total number of banks connected to this system throughout the GCC to 74. AFAQ was designed to create a more cohesive regional payments infrastructure, facilitating smoother financial transactions between GCC member states. This connectivity is set to benefit individuals, businesses, and financial institutions alike, fostering a conducive environment for trade and investment.

The inclusion of Qatar in the AFAQ network also opens up new possibilities for other Qatari banks to join the regional platform as it continues to grow. This expansion is anticipated to aid in the digital transformation of financial services and promote closer financial cooperation throughout the Gulf region.

The completion of central bank participation is a significant stride towards deeper economic and financial integration among the six GCC countries. It represents progress in developing a more interconnected regional financial ecosystem, which could have far-reaching implications for the region’s economic landscape.
