Qatar recently took part in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Committee of Ministers of Social Affairs and Social Development meeting held in Bahrain. The gathering aimed at enhancing regional cooperation on various social issues, including social welfare, family support, and community development. Represented by Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Qatar joined discussions focused on improving collaboration among GCC member states and developing joint initiatives to tackle social challenges in the region.
A key agenda of the meeting was the review of existing Gulf-wide decisions and the committee’s work plan for 2026–2030. The ministers deliberated on strategies to enhance social programs to meet evolving community needs. Disability rights were prominently featured, with discussions on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and a proposal to establish a recurring Gulf forum dedicated to disability-related issues.
The impact of artificial intelligence on children’s rights was another significant topic. The ministers examined both the opportunities and challenges posed by emerging technologies, alongside plans for a comprehensive regional report on children’s rights and their future within the GCC countries. Further talks addressed the coordination of policies for childhood protection and welfare.
Additionally, the meeting included discussions on strengthening cooperation regarding women’s issues and the exploration of new initiatives aimed at advancing social development across the Gulf region. These discussions underscore the commitment of GCC states to address pressing social issues collectively.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Al Nuaimi attended a ceremony recognizing notable figures and projects in civil social work, where several Qatari individuals and initiatives were honored for their contributions. This event highlighted Qatar’s active role in promoting social development and cooperation within the GCC framework.
