In a renewed wave of hostilities, Russia launched missile and drone attacks on Kyiv on Sunday, leaving at least one person dead and 13 others injured, as reported by Ukrainian officials. This assault follows Ukraine’s recent targeting of logistics facilities and warehouses inside Russian territory.
The Ukrainian capital was rocked by explosions shortly after air-raid sirens warned of incoming ballistic missiles, affecting six districts. A residential building in the Solomianskyi district suffered damage, while fires erupted in a supermarket and a residence in the Sviatoshynskyi district. Other strikes hit a shopping and entertainment complex in the Dniprovskyi district, an apartment in the Shevchenkivskyi district, and a non-residential building.
Beyond the capital, in the central Dnipropetrovsk region, a Russian drone attack resulted in another fatality. On the Russian front, a Ukrainian strike reportedly caused one death in the Kursk region.
This escalation comes amid Ukraine’s intensified campaign of long-range strikes against Russian territory, targeting infrastructure and energy sites in retaliation for Russia’s ongoing bombardments since the conflict began in 2022. Ukrainian officials have cited the recent drone attacks on logistics sites in Moscow and Tambov regions as part of efforts to disrupt the supply of components crucial for drone production and navigation systems.
Meanwhile, Ukraine is grappling with internal political tensions following a significant government reshuffle. For the third consecutive day, thousands have protested in various cities against the removal of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, fueling speculation about potential broader changes within the nation’s military leadership.
