Qatar has pledged to support Lebanon’s sovereignty, stability, and economic recovery through enhanced collaboration in energy, electricity, and development projects. This commitment was announced by Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, during discussions with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.

The talks between the two leaders focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing regional tensions. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized Qatar’s continued assistance to Lebanon across various sectors, including energy, education, healthcare, and economic development. He also reiterated Qatar’s backing for the Lebanese Armed Forces, acknowledging their role in maintaining national security and stability.

A significant outcome of the discussions was the advancement of cooperation in the energy sector, with QatarEnergy reaching an agreement with France’s TotalEnergies to jointly develop a solar power plant. This project marks an initial step towards broader energy collaboration between the countries. Additionally, Lebanon is progressing towards a joint venture to rehabilitate its electricity infrastructure using a build-operate-transfer model, which could proceed without requiring upfront investment from Lebanon’s treasury.

Sheikh Mohammed expressed concern over the escalating hostilities in Lebanon, condemning Israeli attacks on peacekeeping forces and violations of Lebanese territory. He called for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, advocating for an end to hostilities and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese areas.

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam welcomed Qatar’s ongoing political, economic, and humanitarian assistance, highlighting its contributions to reconstruction and support for Lebanese state institutions. He noted that cooperation in energy and investment would bolster the economy, aid reconstruction efforts, and help displaced residents return to their communities.

Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with international partners to enhance Lebanon’s security and stability and support its long-term recovery. This renewed partnership underscores Qatar’s role in fostering regional stability and economic growth in Lebanon.
